About 5G NR bands
3GPP defines every 5G NR operating band in TS 38.101-1 (FR1, 410 MHz – 7.125 GHz) and TS 38.101-2 (FR2, 24.25 GHz – 52.6 GHz). Each band specifies DL and UL frequency ranges, the duplex mode (FDD, TDD, Supplementary DL or Supplementary UL), and the allowed channel bandwidths. Bands are named with an 'n' prefix (n1, n78, n257) to distinguish them from LTE bands (B1, B78 does not exist in LTE).
FR1 contains legacy re-farmed spectrum (n1, n3, n7, n8, n20, n28, n71) and new 5G-native mid-band allocations (n77, n78, n79). FR2 holds the mmWave bands (n257, n258, n260, n261, n262) with their much larger 50/100/200/400 MHz channel bandwidths. SDL and SUL bands only exist in carrier-aggregation or supplementary configurations — they cannot carry a standalone cell.
How to use this reference
Use the filter buttons to narrow to FR1, FR2, FDD or TDD. Use the search box to find a band by name ("n78"), by frequency ("3500") or by deployment note ("CBRS", "C-band", "mmWave"). All DL/UL values are in MHz and all channel bandwidths are in MHz.

How to use this tool
- Browse or filter. Scan the table or filter by FR1/FR2 or duplex to narrow it down.
- Find your band. Locate the band (e.g. n78) by number.
- Read the details. Check its DL/UL frequency range, supported channel bandwidths and duplex mode.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do the 5G NR band numbers and frequencies come from?
- They are defined in 3GPP TS 38.101-1 for FR1 (sub-7 GHz) and TS 38.101-2 for FR2 (mmWave). Each band fixes its DL and UL frequency ranges, supported channel bandwidths and duplex mode. This table collects the commonly deployed bands so you can look them up without opening the spec.
- What is the difference between FDD, TDD, SUL and SDL bands?
- FDD bands use separate paired frequencies for downlink and uplink; TDD bands share one frequency and split traffic in time. SUL (supplementary uplink) and SDL (supplementary downlink) are single-direction bands paired with another carrier to add extra uplink or downlink coverage. The duplex column tells you which each band is.
- Which NR bands are the main mid-band 5G bands?
- In FR1 the workhorses are n77 and n78 (C-band, ~3.3–4.2 GHz TDD), n41 (2.5 GHz TDD) and n79 (4.4–5.0 GHz). Low-band bands like n5, n8, n28 and n71 carry coverage layers, while n257/n258/n260/n261 are the FR2 mmWave bands.
