Establishing a PDU Session

A UE is already registered. Establish a PDU session to DNN=internet, observe UPF selection and the PFCP session created on the UPF, then ping 8.8.8.8 through the data plane.

Scenario
UE imsi-999700000000001 is already registered and CM-CONNECTED. The user tapped "Mobile Data ON" on their phone. That triggers a PDU Session Establishment Request that flows UE → AMF → SMF, and the SMF has to: • Pull subscription data from the UDM. • Pick an appropriate UPF for the requested DNN and S-NSSAI. • Create a PFCP session on that UPF (with PDRs, FARs, QERs). • Tell the gNB to set up N3 GTP-U tunnels. • Hand the UE an IP address. Walk through the whole flow, verify the PFCP session exists on the UPF, and finally ping out through the data plane.

What you'll do

  1. Request PDU session establishment for DNN=internet
  2. Check the PFCP session on the UPF
  3. Verify the SMF SM context
  4. Ping 8.8.8.8 from the UE
