How to become a 5G Core Network Engineer

Own the service-based core — registration, sessions, policy, slicing and the call flows that tie them together.

Who takes this route

Engineers specialising in the 5G core and end-to-end systems, often from an EPC or IMS background.

The route

2 courses, in this order — 15 modules, about 8.4 hours of video, hands-on labs throughout, and a graded exam at the end of each.

  1. Place 5G in the real world and draw the whole system from memory — architecture, SBA, radio, and the power-on-to-first-packet journey. No prior telecom knowledge assumed.

  2. Trace every message of the procedures that define 5G, then engineer QoS, slicing, edge, security and voice end-to-end — and hold an informed conversation about 5G-Advanced and 6G.

    Before this: 5G Foundation, or equivalent; 5G RAN Specialist recommended

What you can do at the end

Trace a registration or PDU session end to end and find the cause of a reject; explain how the AMF, SMF and UPF divide the work; reason about slicing, QoS flows and policy as a designed system.

What you earn

2 verifiable TELCOMA certificates — one for each course, issued only after you pass its graded exam. Each carries a number and a QR code to a public verification page an employer can open without an account.
