The LTE Time-Frequency Grid
LTE organizes radio resources in a two-dimensional grid of time and frequency. A Resource Block (RB) is the smallest unit the scheduler can allocate to a user: 12 subcarriers (180 kHz) wide and 1 slot (0.5 ms) long. A Resource Element (RE) is a single subcarrier in one OFDM symbol — the atomic unit of the grid.
