OFDMA and SC-FDMA
Card 1 of 425%
Two Access Schemes, One System
LTE uses two different multiple access schemes. The downlink (tower to phone) uses OFDMA — Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access. The uplink (phone to tower) uses SC-FDMA — Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access. Both divide the bandwidth into narrow 15 kHz subcarriers, but SC-FDMA has a lower peak-to-average power ratio, which saves battery life on the handset.
