When you move between cells, LTE performs a handover to transfer your connection from the source eNodeB to the target eNodeB. LTE supports two types: X2 handover (direct between eNodeBs, faster) and S1 handover (via the core network, used when no X2 link exists). Both are designed to minimize interruption — ideally just 20-50 ms of user plane interruption.
