E-UTRAN: eNodeB and the radio side
Card 1 of 425%
The eNodeB: Heart of E-UTRAN
In LTE, the base station is called an eNodeB (evolved Node B). Unlike 3G where the RNC sat between the base station and core, the eNodeB handles radio resource management, scheduling, handover decisions, and header compression all by itself. This "flat" design removes a bottleneck and reduces latency.
