Migrating from NSA to SA is a multi-phase process that operators must plan carefully. Phase 1 involves deploying the 5G Core alongside the existing EPC, initially serving only SA-capable devices. Phase 2 introduces interworking between EPC and 5GC so that devices can seamlessly hand over between 4G and 5G. Phase 3 gradually shifts traffic to SA while decommissioning NSA anchors.
