IMT-2020 is the ITU-R framework that defines the performance requirements for 5G systems. Published in ITU-R M.2083, it establishes eight key performance indicators (KPIs) that any technology must meet to be recognized as a true 5G standard. 3GPP NR was submitted and accepted as the radio interface technology (RIT) fulfilling these requirements.
