A pure 5G SA deployment without 4G interworking might seem to escape legacy protocol concerns — but very few real-world deployments are pure. Most 5G subscribers can still: roam to networks that use 4G (Diameter) or 3G (SS7); fall back to 4G for voice (where Diameter is essential); receive SMS via legacy interconnect signaling. As a result, an attacker who can reach an operator's Diameter or SS7 interconnect can launch attacks that affect 5G subscribers.
