Indoor antenna systems: DAS, small cells, repeaters
Why Indoor Coverage Needs Dedicated Solutions
Approximately 80% of mobile traffic originates indoors, yet building penetration loss at C-band (20–25 dB) makes outdoor-to-indoor coverage unreliable. Three main solutions address this: Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), small cells, and repeaters. Passive DAS distributes RF signals from a central base station through coaxial cables to remote antenna units throughout the building. It supports multiple operators and technologies on a single infrastructure. Active DAS replaces coax with fiber for longer runs and adds remote amplification — preferred for large venues like airports and stadiums.
