Capacity dimensioning

From Traffic Model to Site Count

Capacity dimensioning translates subscriber traffic into required sites. Start with the traffic model: total subscribers (N), busy-hour data rate per user (R), busy-hour concentration factor (10–15% of daily traffic), and overbooking ratio (10:1 to 50:1 since not all users are active simultaneously). Total busy-hour demand = N × R × BH_factor / overbooking. Next calculate sector capacity: for 100 MHz n78 with 64T64R, practical DL throughput is approximately 800–1000 Mbps per sector. Required sites = total demand / (sector capacity × sectors per site).
