Private 5G network models: SNPN, PNI-NPN, hybrid
Standalone Non-Public Networks
A Standalone Non-Public Network operates completely independent of any public mobile operator. The enterprise owns or leases all network elements — radio access, core, and spectrum. SNPN uses a unique combination of PLMN ID and Network Identifier (NID) introduced in 3GPP Release 16 to distinguish it from public networks. Devices must be explicitly provisioned with SNPN credentials, and there is no fallback to public coverage. This model delivers maximum control over security, data sovereignty, and performance tuning at the cost of full operational responsibility.
