Network Slicing · Pro
Not all network functions need to be dedicated per slice. 5G uses a hybrid approach that balances isolation with resource efficiency. Some NFs are shared across all slices because their function is inherently common: NSSF handles slice selection for everyone, NRF provides NF discovery for all slices, and UDM/AUSF manage subscriber data and authentication regardless of which slice the subscriber uses. These shared NFs serve all slices from a single pool, keeping infrastructure costs manageable while providing centralized services that every slice depends on.
