Ethernet Backhaul with Power over Ethernet
Ethernet is the most common backhaul method for indoor small cells because it leverages existing structured cabling infrastructure in most commercial buildings. A single Category 6A cable provides both data connectivity and power delivery through PoE standards. IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 PoE delivers up to ninety watts, sufficient for most picocells and enterprise small cells. The Ethernet connection carries S1/NG interface traffic between the small cell and the mobile core network through the enterprise LAN, typically through a dedicated VLAN with QoS priority.
