Why Indoor Testing Is Different

Indoor coverage presents unique challenges compared to outdoor drive testing. RF signals penetrate buildings differently depending on construction materials — glass lets most energy through, concrete attenuates heavily, and metal-clad buildings can block signals entirely. Multi-path propagation inside buildings creates rapid signal variations over short distances. Instead of a vehicle, the engineer walks through the building carrying a test phone (often with a backpack-mounted scanner) while the collection software runs on a tablet or laptop.
