Core Network Engineer: role overview and daily workflow
What Does a Core Network Engineer Do?
Core network engineers deploy, configure, and maintain the 5G core network functions — AMF, SMF, UPF, AUSF, UDM, PCF, NSSF, and NRF. They work with cloud-native platforms running containerized NFs on Kubernetes, manage service-based architecture interfaces, configure network slicing policies, and troubleshoot PDU session and registration failures. Their daily workflow spans NF lifecycle management, capacity monitoring, configuration changes, and incident response for core network alarms.
