The ISAC Paradigm

Integrated Sensing and Communication merges radar-like sensing and data communication into a single system sharing waveforms, hardware, and spectrum. Rather than separate radar and communication deployments competing for spectrum, ISAC performs both functions simultaneously. The base station transmits waveforms optimized for both data delivery and target detection — measuring range, velocity, and angle of objects in the environment. This dual-function approach is a core 6G capability identified in ITU IMT-2030 as the Integrated Sensing and Communication usage scenario.
