Peak and User-Experienced Data Rates

IMT-2030 targets a peak data rate of 1 Tbps — a 50x increase over 5G peak of 20 Gbps. User-experienced data rates are expected to reach 1 Gbps (10x over 5G). These targets are driven by holographic displays requiring 4.32 Tbps for uncompressed 3D video and immersive XR needing sustained Gbps-class throughput per user. Achieving these rates requires bandwidth aggregation across sub-6 GHz, upper mid-band, mmWave, and sub-THz spectrum combined with advanced spatial multiplexing from cell-free massive MIMO architectures.
