5G-AKA vs EAP-AKA' authentication
Two Authentication Protocols
5G supports two primary authentication protocols, and both provide mutual authentication between the UE and the network. 5G-AKA is the native 3GPP protocol, optimized for cellular access with fewer message roundtrips. The UE sends its authentication response directly to the AUSF via the AMF, making it efficient for standard radio attachments. EAP-AKA' is based on the Extensible Authentication Protocol framework defined in RFC 5448. It wraps AKA credentials inside EAP messages, adding extra roundtrips but gaining the flexibility to work over both 3GPP cellular and non-3GPP access networks like…
