PSS and SSS synchronization
Primary Synchronization Signal
The PSS is an m-sequence occupying 127 subcarriers within a single OFDM symbol of the SSB. Only three PSS sequences exist, corresponding to N_ID_2 values of zero, one, and two. The UE performs correlation against all three stored sequences simultaneously to detect which one is present. A successful correlation yields two critical results: OFDM symbol-level timing alignment telling the UE exactly where the SSB boundary falls, and the value of N_ID_2 narrowing the cell identity to one of three groups.
