Three Physical Channels for the Uplink

The NR uplink mirrors the downlink with three physical channels serving complementary roles. The Physical Uplink Shared Channel carries user data and can also piggyback Uplink Control Information when a UE has both data and control to send simultaneously. PUSCH supports both CP-OFDM and the optional DFT-s-OFDM waveform depending on the transform precoding configuration. The Physical Uplink Control Channel is dedicated to control feedback including HARQ acknowledgments, Channel State Information reports, and Scheduling Requests that tell the network the UE has data waiting to transmit.
