Lab: Calculate RBs for bandwidth and SCS
The RB Calculation Formula
Calculating the number of usable Resource Blocks is a core skill for radio engineers. The formula takes the total channel bandwidth, subtracts twice the guard band width to account for both edges, and divides the remaining bandwidth by the product of subcarrier spacing and twelve subcarriers per RB. The result is floored to the nearest integer. For practical work, 3GPP TS 38.101 provides pre-calculated RB tables for every supported combination of channel bandwidth and SCS, but understanding the underlying formula is essential for troubleshooting unexpected capacity figures.
