5G QoS & Policy Framework · Pro
The 5G QoS Identifier (5QI) is a scalar value that acts as a reference to a predefined set of QoS characteristics. Think of it as a lookup key into a standardized table that every network element understands. For each 5QI value, the table specifies the resource type (GBR, non-GBR, or delay-critical GBR), priority level, packet delay budget, packet error rate, and for delay-critical flows, the maximum data burst volume and averaging window. This standardization means every node from the gNB to the UPF knows exactly how to treat traffic without per-flow negotiation.
