DAPS (Dual Active Protocol Stack) handover
Zero-Interruption Handover
DAPS handover maintains simultaneous connections to both the source and target gNBs during the handover transition. The UE runs two active protocol stacks, one for each cell, ensuring that data continues flowing without any interruption during the switch. In a traditional handover, the UE disconnects from the source, performs RACH to the target, and reconnects — causing a 20-50ms gap. With DAPS, the UE establishes the target connection while the source connection remains fully active.
