Conditional Handover is a Release 16 enhancement where the network prepares multiple candidate target cells in advance and provides the UE with handover configurations plus execution conditions for each candidate. The source gNB sends an RRC Reconfiguration message containing conditional configurations — each with a target cell identity, handover command, and trigger condition such as an A3 event for that specific cell. The UE stores all configurations and monitors the conditions independently for each candidate.
