The Unified Data Management function is the 5G equivalent of the LTE HSS. It provides subscription data management by storing and serving subscriber profiles, authentication credential processing by generating authentication vectors for the AUSF, service-specific authorization to control which services a subscriber can access, and UE reachability management to track which AMF is currently serving each subscriber.
