The 3GPP ecosystem now offers five distinct device categories for IoT: Full NR for high-performance devices, RedCap (Rel-17) for mid-tier IoT like wearables and industrial cameras, eRedCap (Rel-19) for simpler sensors, NB-IoT for ultra-low-power wide-area sensors, and LTE-M for mobile IoT with voice support. Choosing the wrong category wastes cost, battery, or capability. In this lab you will match real-world IoT scenarios to the optimal device category based on bandwidth, latency, battery life, cost, and coverage requirements.
